Throughout the years, we’ve all heard a variety of waxing stories: the good, the bad, and the ugly… however, you shouldn’t be afraid of waxing! Learn about the benefits and drawbacks of hard wax versus soft wax in this article.
Once you know exactly which area of your body each wax is better suited for, you will certainly have a more pleasant, efficient and safe waxing experience.
Hard Wax vs. Soft Wax
Despite the fact that wax comes in many different types and brands, they all fall into two categories: hard wax and soft wax. For the most part, soft wax is used when waxing the body.
Soft wax is applied with a waxing spatula and removed with muslin strips. As a rule of thumb, wax should be used on larger areas such as arms, legs, and armpits.
It is harder to work with hard wax. You must use a spatula to apply warm wax. Once the wax has hardened, you do not need to remove it using a strip.
Most people use hard wax to wax their faces. In the bikini area, especially, sensitive skin should opt for a hard wax, which adheres to the hair instead of attaching to the skin, reducing discomfort and irritation.
Brazilian waxing, however, requires soft wax. Why is this the case?
Unlike traditional bikini waxing, which leaves a small amount of hair on top, Brazilian waxing removes all the hair from the labia to the rear. Because of the different directions in which the hair grows, it is particularly sensitive in this area. Consequently, waxing in this area is less painful and more effective.
Hard Wax – Pros and Cons
The application of professional hard wax beads to the face is less painful than that of soft wax.
If you apply hard wax to large areas of the body, such as the legs, it will break – you can only apply it to small areas.
Hard wax does not leave behind any sticky residue. It is easier to clean.
With hard wax, shorter hair can be waxed once rather than twice.
It is significantly more expensive to buy hard wax than soft wax in salons.
It is much easier to remove hair when the hair follicles and pores are opened up by heat.
Soft Wax – Pros and Cons
- Soft wax adheres better to skin than hard wax, allowing it to be exfoliated more effectively.
- Soft wax picks up fine hairs well, and it works better on large areas of the body than hard wax.
- Soft wax cannot be applied to the same spot twice since it removes layers of dead skin.
- Even if soft wax tends to be stickier than hard wax, there is no special preparation needed. Hard wax is much more expensive than soft wax – it usually costs between $5 and $15 per pack.
- Less painful for most people, soft wax is suitable for extra sensitive areas, such as the armpits or the Brazilian wax.
