At a very early age, there was little doubt Cookie Wright was destined for a career in the music business.” During the 70’s and 80’s as a youth Cookie was drawn to the sounds of much older artists, Johnny Taylor, Tyrone Davis, Koko Taylor, B.B King just to name a few, impressive considering she was 8/9 years old.
She not only began to study the music but challenged herself to learn all she could about the artist who sang the music.
In 1980 Cookie attended a concert at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta Ga, the show was the late Chuck Berry, she decided that night that Blues and Soul music was what she wanted she wanted to do.
Her health took a challenging turn in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, Cookie credits the music that helped her through those trying years.
Even as she struggled with health issues, she would spend 15 years and countless miles driving AL, MS, LO, and TX to find mom and pop record stores to buy Blues Music she couldn’t get in her hometown Atlanta Ga.
In 2016 her passion paid off when she was invited to KISS 104.1 for a guest segment on Radio Hall of Fame broadcaster Mitch Faulkner’s Saturday Night Throwback Party Show where she featured Soul Blues music.
Fast forward 3 years, Cookie and Mitch are together again on Radio One Classix 102.9, Sundays 7-9 pm. Dedicating her entire life to Soul Blues, the fruits of her labor are paying off, Cookie is the first female to co-host a Blues Program in Atlanta radio history.
She continues to push new boundaries, look to her voice and the music on stations all across the US in the near future.
